High Stakes at the Algarve for Supercars Jarama RACE Finale

The inaugural edition of the Supercars Jarama RACE is on the verge of its decisive round, set to take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve on the 26th and 27th of October, with multiple contenders in the running for titles, promising a weekend full of excitement.

In the overall GT4 standings, Guillermo Aso and Filip Vava, driving a Mercedes AMG GT4 for NM Racing Team, are in the lead, but the competition is too close for any sense of comfort.

With the worst result points already discarded, the duo in the German car have eighty points, just two more than Iberian duo César Machado and Jan Durán, in a Toyota GR Supra GT4 for Speedy Motorsport, who are serious contenders for the ‘Spanish title.’

Two points behind them is the BMW España Motorsport pairing of Nerea Martí and José de los Milagros, who are in control of their own destiny as they aim for the Supercars Jarama RACE crown.

Salvador Tineo and Luis González, in a Mercedes AMG GT4 for Team VRT, are twenty points behind the leaders but still have a shot at the championship, with fifty-four points still up for grabs (twenty-five per race, plus one for pole position and one for fastest lap).

With such tight margins, every detail will count, and interference from other driver pairings could prove decisive in the final results.

Everything Close in the GT4 divisions

The situation in the GT4 Pro division is very similar, but here, the BMW M4 GT4 pairing sits in second place, just two points behind Guillermo Aso and Filip Vava, with César Machado and Jan Durán only three points adrift of the leaders.

In the GT4 Bronze class, Nil Montserrat and Alberto de Martín, in a Mercedes AMG GT4 for NM Racing Team, have a more comfortable lead but still have Héctor Hernández and Borja Garcia, in a BMW M4 GT4 for Autoworks Motorsport, sixteen points behind. Just a small slip could jeopardise their position. Patrick Cunha and Jorge Rodrigues, driving an Audi R8 LMS GT4 for Veloso Motorsport, placed themselves in the title fight with two victories in Valencia. The Portuguese duo sit twenty-eight points behind and slightly out of contention, but with a bit of luck, they could still turn things in their favour.

In the GT4 Am division, for less experienced drivers, series newcomers Keith Gatehouse and Igor Sorokin are also in a strong position, holding a twenty-six-point lead over Javier Macias and Smörg in a BMW M4 GT4 for Promotion Motorsport. However, the NM Racing Team’s Mercedes AMG GT4 duo will need to take a strategic approach to the Algarve weekend to avoid any unpleasant surprises, especially with quick duo André and Miguel Nabais in a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 for Speedy Motorsport, who could still play a role despite being forty-seven points behind.

GTC and Divisions Set for Thrilling Showdown

In the overall GTC standings, Rui Miritta is the clear favourite with his one hundred and twenty points, holding a thirty-five-point advantage over Simon Moore and Tomás Pinto Abreu. The Porsche 911 driver for Monteiros Competição, already the virtual GTC champion in the Iberian Supercars, doesn’t even need to finish ahead of his Ginetta G50 rivals from Tockwith Motorsports to secure the ‘Spanish title.’

This is also the case in the Cup division, where his opponents are Marcus Fothergill and Dave Benett, driving a Porsche 911 prepared by the English Tockwith Motorsports team. The Portuguese driver has shown great competitiveness and consistency, and if he can replicate his performances from throughout the season in the Portimão racetrack, he should be able to claim the title.

In the GTX division, which features older GT4 models, the title battle is between Tockwith Motorsports recruits Simon Moore and Tomás Pinto Abreu, who must fend off a challenge from teammates Steve Kirton and Jonathan Elsworth, who are eighteen points behind.

The Ginetta G50 drivers are the favourites, but one bad result in a race could see the Ginetta G55 duo erase the points gap ahead of the Algarve round.

These are more than enough reasons to follow the Algarve stage of the Supercars Jarama RACE, taking place on the 26th and 27th of October, which also counts towards the Iberian Supercars and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade. Both races will be broadcast on Spain's DAZN and Portugal's A Bola TV, as well as on the Supercars Endurance YouTube channel.
