Series newcomers Gianfranco Motorsport is set to take on the 2025 Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade with a three-car assault—fielding two Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2s and an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.
The historic Portuguese squad, celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, returns to the forefront of Iberian motorsport with high ambitions. The team presented its driver line-up and machinery at the Vila Foz Hotel & Spa in Porto, signalling its intent to fight for top honours across the respective GT4 divisions.
One of the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2s, entered in the GT4 Pro-Bronze class, will be driven by young talent Alexandre Areias. Having built his career in Porsche and Caterham one-make series—where he clinched the title last season—Areias now steps up to the premier GT championship in the Iberian Peninsula. Partnering him is Nuno Afonso, another driver with a strong background in Caterhams, making his debut in both Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade.
The second Supra will be piloted by the Nabais brothers, André and Miguel, who enter their third season in the championship. The duo secured the GT4 Am title in the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade in 2024 and will now compete in the GT4 Bronze category.
Meanwhile, the team’s Aston Martin will be driven by an experienced pairing - Ruben Vaquinhas and Pedro Bastos Rezende. Entering their second season at the wheel of the British GT4 machine, they finished third in last year’s GT4 Am standings and are aiming for the title in 2025.
Team principal Carlos ’Ginho’ Rodrigues is confident in his squad’s potential, believing Gianfranco Motorsport’s trio of driver pairings can challenge at the sharp end of the field. "We have high expectations for our debut season in Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade. All three of our duos are capable of fighting for class titles. The entire team is fully committed, and we’re going all in to secure championship victories," he stated.
Gianfranco Motorsport will make its race debut in the Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve on 5–6 April, marking the start of the season. Ahead of that, the official pre-season test will take place tomorrow at the Autódromo do Estoril.
